ZEW's Alignment with the SDGs
How ZEW’s work aligns with the global agenda for people and planet
In 2015, all United Nations member states adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - a universal blueprint to achieve a more sustainable, equitable, and resilient future by 2030. The 17 goals cover everything from ending poverty and hunger to advancing clean energy, gender equality, and climate action.
At Zero Emissions World (ZEW), our mission directly contributes to this global agenda. We are not just focused on emissions reductions in isolation, we are committed to empowering NGOs, communities, brands, and citizens to collaborate on projects that address the interconnected challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and social equity.
Here’s how our work aligns with, and amplifies, the SDGs.
SDG 1: No Poverty
By supporting community-led sustainability projects, ZEW helps create livelihood opportunities that lift people out of poverty. Whether through reforestation jobs, clean energy initiatives, or sustainable agriculture, our collaborations empower vulnerable communities to earn fair, climate-resilient incomes.
Some of our projects that contribute to reducing global poverty are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, in collaboration with the NGO, Gaia, we are creating job pathways for women, youth, and local entrepreneurs in low-income areas through digital work opportunities to help them enhance their financial prospects
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Sowing the future’ project, in collaboration with the NGO Kutsaca, we are supporting vulnerable families through food security and education to improve their livelihoods and gain better access to basic services
SDG 2: Zero Hunger
Climate change directly affects food systems. ZEW works with NGOs that promote sustainable farming, soil restoration, and local food resilience. These initiatives improve crop yields, support smallholder farmers, and contribute to food security in regions most affected by environmental degradation.
Some of our projects that are helping to end global hunger and improve food security are:
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Sowing the future’ project, we are providing 50+ daily meals for children by supporting locals to farm regeneratively, which helps fight chronic malnutrition
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
Clean air, safe water, and stable climates are essential for health. Through climate action projects that reduce emissions and pollution, ZEW supports healthier communities and improved well-being. Our work also highlights the mental health benefits of community engagement and environmental restoration.
Some of our projects that are promoting healthier lives and well-being are:
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Sowing the future’ project, we are promoting well-being through more widely available food and the provision of a safe educational environment at the Kutsaca School
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, in collaboration with the NGO Apoiar, we are providing access to a soccer field for children to help them enhance their physical and mental well-being
SDG 4: Quality Education
Education is a powerful catalyst for not just environmental change but also for helping people turn their lives around. ZEW collaborates with NGOs and schools to promote climate literacy, environmental awareness, and youth engagement. By empowering local people with knowledge, we nurture the next generation of resilient sustainability leaders.
Some of our projects that contribute to the provision of quality education are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are empowering the local community with skills training and access to digital education via the provision of laptops and Starlink internet to create a vibrant digital hub
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Sowing the future’ project, we are providing early childhood education for 300+ children to help them prepare for long-term success
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, we are providing solar electricity via solar panels to a preschool for children
SDG 5: Gender Equality
Climate solutions are most effective when they are inclusive. Many of our partner NGOs focus on empowering women—whether by supporting female-led farming cooperatives, creating leadership opportunities, or ensuring equitable participation in climate projects.
Some of our projects that contribute to gender equality, with special emphasis on women empowerment, are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are promoting gender equality through targeted support for women to be local leaders and entrepreneurs
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, we are training local women as solar technicians so that they can utilize their training for the betterment of their families and community
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Transitioning to renewable energy is central to reducing global emissions. By supporting community-scale solar, wind, and clean cooking projects, ZEW helps make clean energy accessible while also reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Some of our projects that contribute to the provision of affordable and clean energy are:
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, in collaboration with the NGO Apoiar, we are helping train local women as solar technicians, electrifying the preschool with solar panels, and providing 100 rechargeable LED lamps so that families can sustainably light up their homes
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are helping revitalize a 10-year-old community telecentre and deploy a solar-powered community boat, ensuring renewable energy access
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, we are not only providing solar electricity to a preschool, we are also providing >100 rechargeable LED lamps to local families so that they can light up their homes
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Sustainability and livelihoods go hand in hand. ZEW-supported projects often create green jobs, from planting trees to installing solar systems to managing eco-tourism initiatives. This aligns with our belief that a just transition is essential for lasting climate solutions.
Some of our projects that contribute to promoting decent work and economic growth are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are helping to enabling access to decent work and promoting economic growth through digital labour inclusion and making the community self-sufficient
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
A sustainable future depends on innovation. ZEW’s platform encourages creative approaches to emissions reduction—supporting green technologies, circular economy models, and low-carbon infrastructure through storytelling and partnerships with innovators and social enterprises.
Some of our projects that promote innovation and infrastructure are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are helping build resilient digital infrastructure and using technology for inclusive development by revitalizing an old telecenter via solar energy and batteries as well as access to Starlink internet
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
Climate change disproportionately impacts marginalized populations. ZEW amplifies the work of NGOs addressing climate justice and inclusion, ensuring that vulnerable voices - particularly from the Global South - are heard, funded, and empowered within the global sustainability conversation.
Some of our projects that work to reduce inequalities, especially in countries that have been historically marginalized, are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are reducing inequalities through access to technology and fair economic participation for the local community
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, we are reducing inequalities by providing the community with access to electricity, training, and the children with a football field
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Our campaigns and storytelling tools highlight the need for urban resilience, from green infrastructure to clean transport. By connecting NGOs and citizens, ZEW helps cities explore climate-friendly practices that improve health, equity, and liveability.
Some of our projects that work to promote sustainable cities and communities are:
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, we are making the community more sustainable and resilient through the provision of solar power and training
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Through campaigns and collaborations with our partners, ZEW encourages conscious consumer behaviour and sustainable production practices. We use storytelling to help audiences understand the link between lifestyle choices, waste reduction, and planetary health. Additionally, we also help local communities become self-reliant by providing access to regenerative farming practices.
Some of our projects that promote responsible consumption and production are:
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Sowing the future’ project, we are encouraging regenerative agriculture through training and constructing greenhouses to strengthen sustainable local food systems
SDG13: Climate Action:
This goal is at the very heart of ZEW’s mission. Every campaign and project we support aims to reduce emissions, strengthen community resilience, or raise awareness about the urgency of climate action. We connect influencers, brands, and communities to impactful social and climate projects, providing real-time tracking of donations and their effects.
Some of our projects that contribute to bold climate action are:
As part of our ‘Digital Amazonia’ project, we are encouraging remote, low-impact work models and clean energy use via the provision of solar energy
As part of our ‘Mozambique - Scoring Change’ project, we are promoting clean energy use through the provision of solar energy to power the local preschool and residential buildings
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Collaboration is at the core of ZEW. Our platform brings together NGOs, brands, ambassadors, and individuals in shared campaigns. By acting as a bridge, we multiply impact and build the partnerships that the SDGs recognize as essential to systemic change.
Some of the NGOs that we are currently partnering with are Gaia, Kutsaca, and Apoiar, with many more being onboarded.
Other SDGs
While the SDGs listed above are the most naturally aligned with Zero Emissions World’s mission, many of the projects that we support also generate meaningful impact across other goals — for example, providing access to clean drinking water and sanitation (SDG 6) and promoting sustainable use of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems (SDGs 14 & 15). We are also proponents of peaceful, inclusive societies that provide easy access to justice for all (SDG 16). This is because several of the initiatives that we support also carry a strong social component, in addition to their environmental dimension.
We constantly seek meaningful projects that demonstrate scalability, measurable impact, and long-term sustainability, ensuring that every action contributes tangibly to both people and planet.
Why This Alignment Matters
For donors, partners, and ambassadors, understanding ZEW’s alignment with the SDGs ensures that every contribution is part of a larger, globally recognized framework. Supporting ZEW doesn’t just mean helping individual projects, it means driving progress on the world’s most urgent shared priorities.
By mapping our work to the SDGs, we:
Build accountability by measuring our impact against global standards.
Enable collaboration with governments, companies, and NGOs who share SDG-aligned goals.
Demonstrate systemic impact by showing that climate action advances health, gender equality, economic opportunity, and more.
